The “G8,” a partnership among the eight Episcopal congregations in Greensboro, pool church resources and skills to help serve the city’s need for affordable, safe housing.
Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat is founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety.
More about Habitat for Humanity may be found at www.hhgg.org
The partnership has built three homes for Habitat for Humanity since 2000, and there is hope that by the end of 2010 there will be a fourth “G8” Episcopal Habitat Home.
Housing Greensboro is a “sister” organization to Habitat for Humanity, dedicated to the repair and renovation of owner-occupied homes that have become substandard and hazardous. Funds are solicited, and teams of skilled and unskilled volunteers are recruited to help with supervised plumbing, electrical, and carpentry projects.
In the fall of 2008, the “G8” completed its first of what is hoped to be an ongoing series of projects, re-roofing a house for a working single mom with six children and one grandchild.
The mission of Habitat Re-Store is to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro, so that new, affordable housing can be constructed in Greensboro. The Re-Store accepts new and gently used donated items that are working and in good condition which are then sold to the general public. The funds are then recycled back into Habitat’s mission to build simple, decent, affordable homes for those who really need them.
All Saints parishioners serve at the Habitat Re-Store pricing, cleaning, and sorting as well as assisting customers and running cash registers.
